The Fat Duck

The Fat Duck in Bray, Heston Blumentals restaurant.
Me, my mum, dad, brother and his girlfriend went to The Fat Duck and had the tasting menu which is about 14 small courses.
Here is most of the menu in pictures!
This was Nitro Poached Aperitifs, a blob of mousse was put on a spoon and they then dropped it into liquid nitrogen until hardened. You can pick out of three different flavours - Vodka and Lime Sour, Gin and Tonic and Tequila and Grapefruit. As soon as it was put on the plate you had to eat it straight away. This is why I don't have a picture of it! As soon as the little aperitif goes in your mouth it is an explosion of taste.

Red Cabbage Gazpacho, with Pommery Grain Mustard Ice Cream.

Jelly of Quail, Crayfish Cream and Chicken Liver Parfait, Oak Moss and Truffle Toast.
This course was amazing, the centre piece had water poured over it and the dry ice which then let off smoke. Before digging into the main part of the course we had a small tab which we put on our tongue, it melted and tasted woody and like a forest in your mouth, sounds strange but you can't miss it out!

Snail Porridge, Iberico Bellota Ham and Shaved Fennel.

Roast Fois Gras - with Barberry, Braised Kombu and Crab Biscuit.

Mad Hatters Tea Party.
Mock Turtle Soup, Pocket Watch and Toast Sandwich.
The Mock Turtle Soup! Now this was amazing, a very hands on course! The top of this tea pot is filled with hot water, you take the pocket watch and drop it into the water like a tea bag. After the watch has dissolved you pour it over the food in the tea cup.

The Toast Sandwich was strangely amazing!

"Sound Of The Sea"
This course was a sensory explosion. As you ate your meal you listened to the sound of the sea. It really was crazy, eating a multitude of fish and other things presented on an exquisite plate really went well together and made you feel like you were at the beach.

Salmon Poached in Liquorice Gel - with Artichokes, Vanilla Mayonnaise and Golden Trout Roe.

Lamb and Cucumber, Green Pepper and Caviar Oil

 Hot and Iced Tea.
Unfortunately I did not get a picture, it was one of the best courses on the menu. The tea was hot one side and cold the other. IN THE SAME CUP! It was unbelievable.
After that course was...

Macerated Strawberry - with Olive Oil Biscuit, Chamomile and Coriander.

Unfortunately, I cannot recall or work out which course this is! But it was still very tasty, I can assure you!

Whiskey Wine Gums.
This course came before the sweet shop course. A small card map was placed in front of us, attached to the map were small wine gums that tasted of different whiskeys from different parts of the Scotland. Again I missed a photographic opportunity to snap a picture of this course.

"Like A Kid In A Sweet Shop"

Aerated Chocolate, Mandarin Jelly
Coconut Baccy, Coconut Infused with the Aroma of Black Cavendish Tobacco
Apple Pie Caramel, with an Edible Wrapper
The Queen of Hearts

The Queen card was the quirkiest part of this course. The Queen was like a cake and the stamp that kept the envelope closed was edible too!

Overall, this place should definitely be high on your list of go to places! It is quite pricey and £195 per person, but if you have graduation or your 18th or 21st birthday coming up ask for it as a present. Make sure you book way in advanced though!

Hope you get a chance to go!
